How Long Should My Page Titles Be?

I've always operated under the practice of the 70 character page title for purposes of search engine optimization. In a new post at SEOmoz, the 70 character page title is called into question.

In addition to what impact a page title may have on search engine positions, it's important to think about page titles in terms of impact on readers. Will your page title motivate them to click? Will it motivate them to read? Will it motivate them to share? Will it motivate them to come back and read what you write next?

Page title length is something worth careful consideration. If you've ever worked in journalism, you know what kind difference a good title can make, as well as, the negative consequences of an ineffective title.

I'd like to see more on the impact of page titles on search. At this point, I'm still sticking with page titles that draw people in and motivate them to take some kind of action.
